Short on how I prepare my canvasses for painting with alcohol inks. In my experience, I don't have a gesso brand preference. I go with the cheapest professional brand I can find. If you want a very smooth surface, do sand each layer when dried. Personally I like to work with the texture, and sometimes even add heavy paste to give the painting a more 3D effect. You can drop the acrylic paint and make 3-4 layers exclusively of gesso. Some of my canvases only have gesso and I also like it, but I find the result closer to what I can get on synthetic paper if the top layers are of acrylic paint.
